WHAT ARE WE ABOUT?

ABOUT US

DeSoto Jr. Eagles & Eaglettes Mentoring Program is a comprehensive program that offers a range of services to students K-6th grade. By providing academic tutoring in math, reading, and writing, as well as community service, SEL, and sports, the program aims to support students in multiple areas of their lives.

The program is designed to be flexible and accommodating to students schedules, with Saturday sessions and mentor visits to schools during the school week. This approach allows students to receive ongoing support and guidance, both inside and outside of the classroom.

Additionally, by establishing relationships with school administrators and teachers, the program can help identify students who may benefit from the mentoring program and ensure that students in the program are meeting expectations and being held accountable for their choices.

VISION

DeSoto Jr. Eagles & Eaglettes Mentoring Provides a structured environment that allows children the opportunity to compete in organized activities that focus on teamwork, leadership. and their community.

MISSION

Our mission is to collaborate with Educational and Community leaders by implementing a mentor program that will foster motivation towards success and excellence.

ASSESSMENT

One of the problems that hinder our children in school is what we call persistence, the inability to stick with a problem and stick with a lesson until they master their lesson. Many parents from the previous generations had tried very hard to improve their socioeconomic status, but some of their children may believe that education is not a priority. The Desoto Jr. Eagles & Eaglettes Mentoring believes education is without a doubt crucial to the success of all students to compete for jobs. We want to model with Desoto Elementary Schools a quality education that enforces and reinforces math, science, writing, and cognitive thinking that will seperate those who desire a prosperous future from those who are simply content with getting by.

Furthermore, there is a direct relationship between motivation and discipline. During a time where an abundance of things seems to take where an abundance of things seems to take precedence over giving the gift of our time, guilt often leads to parents giving material objects to their children without attaching expectations. When children are spoiled into believing that what they want is what they should have, school provides a rude awakening when it links success to personal effort. Oftentimes, when it is difficult to motivate a child, it is just as difficult to discipline. However, finding tools and strategies to increase motivation can solve many behavior problems. Some students find power and control in their refusals to work. They are often competent and capable, but their need to be in control is so strong that they employee a self-defeating strategy to exert their independence.

Children need to learn that your thoughts manifest in accord with what you feel about those thoughts. You then create a vision of specific goals. Then plans are made to achieve specific goals, and by acting in accord with your plans, results will appear but if any steps along the process are missed or not effective, it is reflected in the end results obtained. So, our ongoing challenge is to find ways of reconnecting with the natural learner that exists in each student and reawaken that spirit with excitement and enthusiasm to the process of learning, therefore, positively transforming our community.
